Obituary of Martha Hunter

Martha Ruth Hunter, 56, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at her residence. She was born on January 13, 1962 in Sparta, IL. The daughter of Carl and Ruth (Lobitz) Uchtmann. Martha and David Hunter were united in marriage on May 28, 1983 at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. While attending SIU College, she was in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She also became a member of Xi Kappa. Martha was a teacher at many schools in this area and also worked at the Department of Human Services as a caregiver. She was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Percy and LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League)

Martha is survived by her husband David Hunter of Sparta; mother Ruth Uchtmann of Sparta; Daughter Erin (Ryan) Hunter-Martin of Chester; son Paul David (Christine) Hunter of Perryville, MO; Sister-in-law Laurie (Michael) Penford of Sparta; two brothers-in-law Michael (Joann) Hunter of Willisville, and Patrick Hunter of Perryville, MO; three sisters Sarah (David) Uchtmann of Sparta, Rebecca (Mark) Fair of San Antonio, TX, and Beth Uchtmann of Sparta; two brothers Robert (Sheila) Uchtmann of Chester, and Paul (Dawna) Uchtmann of Phoenix, AZ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was excited for baby Hunter to arrive in September

Martha is preceded in death by her father, one brother Fred Uchtmann and one brother-in-law Scott Hunter

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at McDaniel & Lee Family Funeral Home in Sparta, IL

Friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home
