Rufus William Rezba, 88, of Sparta, died at his home Sunday, August 6, 2017.
He was born January 17, 1929 in Elkton, Illinois to George and Rose Dintleman Rezba. He and Bettie Gardiner were united in marriage June 19, 1948. She preceded him in death.
Rufus worked for Burn’s Wholesale in delivery sales prior to working at Spartan Printing. He retired from World Color Press after 34 years as a Letter Press Foreman. He was an active member at St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta, IL and Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt, IL, serving both churches in many capacities.
Rufus is survived by his children, Larry Rezba of Alma, IL, Micki Hallock of Tulsa, OK, Sherilyn Bidinger of Longmont, CO, Ardis (Paul) Ligman of Spring Hill, FL, Grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Godfrey, David, and Dr. Ben Rezba, and several nieces and nephews.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister’s Lillian, Hazel and Thelma and brothers Chester and Willis
Rufus will be most remembered for his great passion for his family and faith. His special style of humor, infectious smile, his love for feeding the birds, wicked pinochle player, and spirit to never give up will always be remembered by the many who recently stopped by to have one more cup of coffee, one more visit and one more memory with Rufus
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at McDaniel & Lee Family Funeral Home in Sparta, IL, and on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
On Friday, Family and friends will proceed from the funeral home to Caledonia Cemetery for graveside services. A Celebration of Life service will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt, IL. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Rufus requested memorials to be given to Lutheran World Relief, Hospice of Southern Illinois or charity of personal choice
