Obituary of Paul Oathout

Paul Oathout, 77, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL. He was born on November 21, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, IL. The son of the late Lester Ray and Pansy (Hankle) Oathout. Paul and Joyce Haury were united in marriage on December 8, 1962 in Sparta, IL. Paul worked as a salesman at Svanda’s and Sparta Ford. He and his wife owned and operated Paul’s True Value store for 25 years in Sparta. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sparta and the Sparta Lion’s Club Rotary

Paul is survived by his wife Joyce Oathout of Sparta, IL; four children, Kelley (Lin) Baker of Jackson, MO, Scott (Angie) Oathout of Sparta, IL, Cassie (Steve) Laratta of Alpharetta, GA, and Paige (Rob) Welge of Chester, IL; nine grandchildren, Corey (Alyssa) Baker, Clayton Baker, Aly Baker, Peyton Oathout, Olivia Oathout, Ashlyn Laratta, Kinsey Laratta, Austin Welge and Lauren Welge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Laura and three brothers, John, Carl and Ralph

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Sparta, IL

Friends may call on Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the Church

Interment will be at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL

Memorials may be given to HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois or to the Randolph County Care Center Activity Fund
