William James Lenington, 70, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at St. Louis University Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1947 in Sparta, IL, the son of the late William Jim and Betty R. (Leiper) Lenington. Bill worked as a guard at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, IL and did carpentry and winterization at Western Egyptian. Bill proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a combat medic. He was a member of the Sparta V.F.W. and Sparta Eagles, the Wounded Warriors, the 173 Airborne Brigade Association, and the Vietnam Veterans Association
Bill is survived by his daughter, Brandy Lenington of Chester, IL; two sons, William “Leni” E. (Lou-Ai) Lenington of Fort Drum, NY, and Scott Lenington of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Rose (Chuck) Kessel of Sparta, IL; four grandchildren, Justin and Li-Ai, Mason and Eli; one niece, Megan (Larry) Klausing; and one nephew, Ezra Charles Kessel
Bill is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at McDaniel & Lee Family Funeral Home in Sparta, IL with Military Honors
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home
